Tinos is undoubtedly one of the most important Orthodox religious destinations of our country, because of the Holy Temple of the Virgin Mary of the Annunciation. Nevertheless, interest is not limited only to this fact. Some 750 churches, chapels and abbeys, of the Eastern and Western dogma, adorn every inch of the island. It is characteristic that in every one of the 54 inhabited and abandoned villages of the island there is at least one church. At the same time, Tinos is a significant reference point for the Mother of Our Lord in Catholicism.

The discovery of the miracle-working icon of Our Lady of Mercy with the Baby Jesus was the reason for the erection of the magnificent church of the Virgin Mary of Vrisi.
