This known - yet unknown island of the Cyclades holds
lots of surprises for its visitors. Today, there are more
than 50 inhabited islands on Tinos that have preserved
their picturesque quality. The museums and the archaeological
sites keep the history of this place alive, helping tourists
experience its culture, manners and customs.
But this is not all the unique nature of the island has
to offer! A scenery of rare beauty in Volax village, composed
of perfectly round shaped granite stones, the marvelous aquatic
habitat of Livada bay with the red, black and yellow rocks,
are but a few of its exciting spots. The whole surface of
the island is carved with thousands of miles of drywall stone
fences. Countless chapels, dovecotes and windmills adorn
the mountainsides, the ravines and the valleys. The sunlight
also adds a special brush stroke on this scenery. The changing
colors from dawn till dusk create a mystical ambiance over
the landscape.

In the summertime, more than 100 kilometers of coastline
cater for every taste: larger or smaller sandy beaches,
coasts covered with pebbles, even rocky shores... Most
of these beaches provide tourist facilities, with rides
in 4Χ4 rented vehicles, trekking, and fishing being
only a few of them.
The main town of Tinos (Chora) is the commercial center
of the island, the ultimate night-life center, and at
the same time a town of great archaeological, artistic,
cultural and, naturally, religious interest. |
